Regrets

As soon as I finished my Scrap Vomit quilt
I was just dying to cut into my Bella!
I still haven't put my new bedding on yet
because I wanted everything to go on together.
Silly I know.

So, I dove in and chopped it up into bits for
a large Granny Square quilt.
But I'm just not in love.

This collection has so much repeat in pattern AND color.
It was near impossible to keep things from being too close together.
Now that the top is done I really wish I had added
additional fabrics from my stash.
Initially I wanted to keep it clean and simple.
Without a lot of variety the Granny Squares pattern is a bit lost.

Maybe the Heath was a mistake too.
I normally go for a clean white to offset the patterns and colors.
But this quilt is going to sit at the foot of my bed and will likely
meet a cheeto or chocolate candy in the near future.
White wasn't really an option this time.

Oh well, it's too late now.
I might take this opportunity to do some experimental FMQ'ing
since I'm not head over heels for this quilt.

.........sigh

  1. Oh no... That's a shame. I wish you could start over again. I bought Bella too and was a little taken back by the yellow. It's on the shelf now and I might split up the bundle to use with other colors instead. Had to laugh about the necessity not to use white though... We see all these homes in the magazines with white couches and chairs. It looks amazing... And I know I wouldn't last two minutes in this crazy house LOL

  2. So disappointing! :( I really loved the Echo collection and was going to order some of the Bella, but the more I looked at it, the more I couldn't decide what I'd do with it, so I never got any. I hope you figure out a solution. It does look pretty!

  3. From what I see it looks great! I do know how you feel I have had that happen before. Hopefully you can love it when it's on your bed:-)

  7. I have done that very thing...which is why it is just so hard for me to cut into the fabrics I love the most!! I am sure it is going to turn out beautifully :o) Can't wait to see it completed!

  8. Oh, I'm so sorry that you don't love it! I know it would be annoying, but would you consider picking it apart and trying again? Probably not. ;) From what I can tell from the picture, it looks fine. But I do understand not loving what you've sewn together, happens to me a lot! Maybe it'll grow on you once it's finished.

  9. Try putting it aside for a while! I had the same reaction to a quilt I made. I was so disappointed I couldn't look at it so I put it aside. I took it out last week, basted and quilted it, finished the binding and threw it in the washing machine. When I took it out of the dryer I loved it and couldn't remember why I didn't like it! Maybe you will have the same experience. Either way, I'm sure it will turn out beautifully!

  10. I agree...put it aside. We all go through a love hate relationship with a quilt. If you love a quilt the entire time? I would think you were strange! It looks beautiful in the picture above. I think you are just too close to it right now!

  11. I think it's really beautiful Lu! But I totally understand that feeling! That's usually when my quilt tops get sent to the pile on my dryer to set and regain their beauty, haha, or something like that. I'm sure you'll be able to make it magical, you're really good at doing that!!
