Is it cheating?

I have mentioned before that I have a gazillion friends/family who are expecting.
I usually make quilts for new babies.
But they don't usually come so close together!

At my LQS I saw the cutest minky!
I couldn't resist!
So I bought enough to make 2 blankets.....
solid on one side, print on the other.

I sewed them up like a big pillow case....
around all of the edges leaving a big enough gap to turn it right side out.

Once turned right side out, I sewed around all of the outer edges
with a 1/2" seam to give it a finished look and secure all of the edges.
So easy!

Two Things:

1. Making a beautiful pieced quilt is risky because sometime's
the recipient won't use them because they are "too nice for spit up."
This is a pet peeve of mine.  Every single quilt I make is
intended for use and abuse. Period.

2. I hate sewing minky.  It's so slick and stretchy, even with a walking foot.
BUT  everyone loves minky.  I'm pretty much guaranteed that a minky
blanket will get used to death!

On that note, I am really hoping that these ladies won't feel cheated
because I didn't make them a pieced quilt.

Do you think they will?

Need to get to work!

First let me tell you that I had a ton of fun
meeting up for lunch with Nicke of Kiss Kiss Quilt!

Natch!  I should have brought my good camera.

She was in town for work so I stole her from her meetings.
We hopped over to California Pizza Kitchen and stuffed our faces.
It's so weird to say "Nice to meet you" when you feel like you already know someone.
I just adore Nicke!
She is so fun and I hope to play with her again very soon :-)

In the meantime, I have to get my On a Whim quilt done,
I mean DONE done by June 2 for Miss S birthday.

I have only completed 3 blocks and have many more to go.

Luckily for me Natalie came over today
and gave me the kick in the pants that I needed.
We cut all of our FQ's for our quilts.

Thanks Natalie!
I certainly wouldn't have done all of that if you weren't here!

I already have a job

I have to remind myself from time to time that I have a job.
A 24 hour MEGA full time job!

Being a mother is not for wimp's!
Do you agree?
Now, I would never say that my job is harder
than anyone else's because I have a big family.
In fact, I think having 1-2 kids is way harder than 4-5 kids.
My hats off to all Mother's!

That's why I don't take custom orders.
*I do have someone I refer people to though*
I have found that as my kids get older they need even more supervision.
I mean, older kids can find much worse trouble than the powdered sugar in the pantry.
It's important to be present and available.
I just can not spend all of my time with my nose
buried in my machine sewing for strangers.

BUT....
every now and then I get a request that I just can't turn down!

A super sweet expectant Mom asked me would I
please, pretty please make her a quilt using them??
Uh.... Yeah!
I think I had ordered the fabric before I could even respond with a yes!
I really love making baby quilts.
And it's always extra motivating when someone dangles
pretty little fabrics before my eyes.
On top of that, it was excellent timing.

She requested my Nina pattern.
It's been pieced, top stitched and now it's ready for binding.
And since it's raining, it's a great day to bind!
I hope someone has sunshine somewhere today!

1 down!

First of all,
I want to say a huge
THANK YOU!
to everyone who sent me emails and left comments regarding my last post.
It means the world to me!
I really believe that women and Mother's alike should be
a source of support and respect for one another.
Your kindness certainly kicked me out of the funk I was in.

thank you! thank you! thank you!

Onto other news,
I'm back from vacation and I'm ready to work!
I have finished one of several baby quilts that need to be made...

It turns out that I did have enough Running Stitches to do the binding.
Although, I didn't realize that until I had twiddled my thumbs
for a week waiting for more to turn up in the mailbox.
Natch!

I left my edges raw for cuddle factor.
I mean, this quilt is for a baby after all.

Can you see all those soft edges???
Such fun texture for wee babies.

I really love how this one turned out!
I hope that Mystery Mom #1 likes it too!
1 down , 3 more to go.

If you have the itch to bust your scraps too
you can find the pattern here

In other totally awes news....
Tina Fey is following me on Pinterest!

I'm 100% certain that this is not the real slim shady.
But it's still funny!

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter!

Taking some heat

This week I received some harsh criticism
regarding the dry night deal that my daughter and I made.
And, like anyone else who's been in my position, I wanted to basically go fetal.
For some reason, I have been under the impression that anyone with children
has most definitely dealt with night time accidents.
Ain't no shame in it!
There certainly isn't in our home.
So if I offended or hurt anyone's feelings
I am deeply, deeply sorry.
And if for any reason I came across as unkind toward my daughter
I want to declare, right here on my little blog, that this particular issue
causes no strain between us.
With 5 kids, her being the 4th, I've been going through wet nights for 13 years now.
I'm pretty used to it.

So instead of going fetal,
I'm gonna get out of town for Easter/Spring Break

I made these Easter baskets for my kids this week.
There's only about a million other things that I needed to be doing instead.
But I couldn't resist!
This is a new pattern by Nova from A Cuppa and a Catchup.
And they are so much fun to make!
It's a total steal at $7.95 for the pattern
because it basically has 3 patterns for the price of one.
I think I'll make some for Mother's Day presents.

Happy Easter to you all!
Thanks for stopping by.

p.s. I deleted the dry night deal post incase you were wondering what on Earth I'm talking about.
