Just me rambling....

Well, things have been a wee bit crazy around here!
We came back from a wonderful week in Bear Lake on Thursday

Only to hop back in the car and drive down to St. George
to see my Mom in the hospital.

She was walking her dog, who is the equivalent
of a really hyper and happy grizzly bear,
when the dog in question pulled her feet
right out from underneath her and she landed
smack in the street.

She broke her hip good!
Now, my Mom is 56 years young.
She's not your average hip patient.

She was ever so lucky to receive 6 lovely screws
and one metal plate in her hip and femur.

She'll be down and out for quite some time.
In fact, I'm pretty sure she'll be moving in with me
whether she likes it or not.

In the meantime.......
my kids go back to school in 2 weeks!
Two weeks!

Part of me wonders where all of the time went.
The other part of me is more than ready to get back
to my sewing machine.
Feel me?

Tell me if you do this....
Every year I get so very excited about packing lunches.
sending my children on their way with good food
in their bellies, in their backpacks and a kiss on their cheeks.

It's very romantic isn't it?

I can keep it up for a good long time but then I begin to burn out.
By the end of the year my kids lunch boxes are filled with cookies and chips and junk.

Gah!  I'm totally confessing now!

Last year I did Bento style lunch boxes.
I ordered them from Laptop Lunches.
These are really nice!
They are a bit pricey (and I'm missing some lids and stuff).

I also found this amazing blog ...

She posts links and resources for everything that she puts on her blog.
PLUS lots of lunch ideas to keep your kids from being bored
PLUS PLUS it's all so cheap!
like $3.50 per Bento!

After ordering replacement lids and containers from here
And a whole truckload of supplies from here
I am just crossing my fingers that the Hubs isn't home when UPS shows up at my door :-)

Does anyone else have very idealistic plans for the school year besides me???

  2. Oh your poor Mum. Ouch!!
I'm still trying with the whole lunchbox thing - but we are halfway through the school year, and I've gotten lazy! But I'm going to get back onto it.
Those bento boxes are so cute!

  3. Bear Lake is so pretty! Glad you had a great vacation. I hope your mom heals well! That's so hard so be laid up for so long...

I've just got little ones so real school isn't on the horizon for another year or two but I'm still all optimistic about having some fun educational thing every day that we'll do together, that they'll actually listen to and love doing...we'll see how it goes.

  4. Ouch, your poor mom! Glad you'll be there to take care of her! And those lunch boxes look so fun. I've been thinking about trying something like that, but haven't gotten to it yet. My oldest starts school next week, so we'll see how long my enthusiasm for exciting lunches lasts!

So glad you had a wonderful week away, too!

  7. Wow! I hope your mom is ok. She's younger than me...yikes, I feel old now. My friend (age 59) fell and broke her hip earlier this year and has made a full recovery. Your mom's youth is on her side.

  9. I get a pit in my stomach when I think about making 5 lunches each day and trying to keep it new and interesting for them. I may have to look in to those boxes for my elementary kids. Apparantly its not cool to take your lunch to school in Jr High...who knew!! So sorry about your mom-hopefully she has a full recovery and she isnt down for too long. Looking forward to seeing more of your super cute quilts!!
